THELIES

O'Reilly denied calling the pope "senile" -- but he did
In response to a caller on his radio show, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly falsely claimed that he "never said the pope was senile." In fact, in 2002, O'Reilly called Pope John Paul II "too senile to know" about the damage Cardinal Bernard Law, former archbishop of the Boston Archdiocese, had caused by allegedly covering up incidents of sexual abuse of children by priests in the archdiocese.

Videos Challenge Accounts of Convention Unrest
Dennis Kyne put up such a fight at a political protest last summer, the arresting officer recalled, it took four police officers to haul him down the steps of the New York Public Library and across Fifth Avenue. "We picked him up and we carried him while he squirmed and screamed," the officer, Matthew Wohl, testified in December. "I had one of his legs because he was kicking and refusing to walk on his own." [...] A videotape shot by a documentary filmmaker showed Mr. Kyne agitated but plainly walking under his own power down the library steps, contradicting the vivid account of Officer Wohl, who was nowhere to be seen in the pictures. [...
... there were two versions of the same police tape: the one that was to be used as evidence in his trial had been edited at two spots, removing images that showed Mr. Dunlop behaving peacefully. When a volunteer film archivist found a more complete version of the tape and gave it to Mr. Dunlop's lawyer, prosecutors immediately dropped the charges and said that a technician had cut the material by mistake.

Under Bush, a New Age of Prepackaged TV News
... In all, at least 20 federal agencies, including the Defense Department and the Census Bureau, have made and distributed hundreds of television news segments in the past four years, records and interviews show. Many were subsequently broadcast on local stations across the country without any acknowledgement of the government's role in their production.

Calif. Gov. 'News' Videos Cause a Stir
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's administration has acknowledged making several videos masquerading as news stories to promote its agenda, creating an uproar from Democrats and labor leaders in a controversy parallel to one ignited by the Bush administration.

"I said on my program, if, if the Americans go in and overthrow Saddam Hussein and it's clean, he has nothing, I will apologize to the nation, and I will not trust the Bush administration again."

- Bill O'Reilly, on ABC's Good Morning America, 03-18-03

So there were no WMD. Here is a great list of everything the key players said leading up to the war that we now know is a lie. Spread this around!

They All Lied

Cheney Lied: “Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction.”
—Speech at VFW 103rd Natl. Convention, Aug. 26, 2002
(There were numerous doubts. Cheney repeatedly visited the CIA in secret to ensure they gave him intelligence to justify invading Iraq.)

Powel lied: “On the left is a close-up of one of the four chemical bunkers. The two arrows indicate the presence of sure signs that the bunkers are storing chemical munitions.”
—Remarks to the United Nations, Feb. 5, 2003
(No chemical munitions were found there or anywhere else.)

Rumsfeld lied: “We know that he has an active program for the development of nuclear weapons.”
—Interview with Infinity-CBS Radio, Nov. 14, 2002
(They knew nothing of the kind.)

Rice lied: “In retrospect, knowing that some of the documents… were, indeed, forgeries…had we known that at the time, we would not have put it in. And had there been even a peep that…the director of Central Intelligence did not want it in, it would have been gone.”
—Face the Nation, CBS, July 13, 2003
(The director of Central Intelligence had written Ms. Rice in October 2002 that the claim was in doubt and the document they touted as evidence was a forgery. CIA Director Tenet also called Ms. Rice’s deputy to warn against using the claim. They used it anyway to bolster their case for a war.)

Bush lied: “The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.”
—State of the Union Address to Congress, Jan. 28, 2003
(Bush had been told the Niger uranium claim was false and based on a forged document, but needed to justify invading Iraq. Our government purposely misled the British government.)

Lying to congress is a felony. Starting a war based on false pretenses against a country that didn’t attack us is even worse. Hundreds of our soldiers are dead as a result of this deliberate campaign of misinformation

A Free Speech Zone Exclusive:
THE BIG LIE
When clinton lied, nobody died...
They Knew - A MUST READ!
Despite the whitewash, we now know that the Bush administration was warned before the war that its Iraq claims were weak. As the 9/11 Commission recently reported, there was “no credible evidence” of a collaborative relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda. Similarly, no weapons of mass destruction have been found in Iraq. With U.S. casualties mounting in an election year, the White House is grasping at straws to avoid being held accountable for its dishonesty.

The Sept. 11 commission, which reported no evidence of collaborative links between Iraq and al Qaeda, said on Tuesday that Vice President Dick Cheney had no more information than commission investigators to support his later assertions to the contrary.
The vice president has asserted long-standing links between the former Iraqi president and Osama Bin Laden's Islamist militant network.

When journalists attack
ABC's Peter Jennings finds his balls and calls Bush out for his flat out lie about a comment Kerry made regarding Saddam Hussein. The Bush administration does this all the time. Flat out lie about Kerry and they just assume people won't bother to verify the statements. We need more journalists to call Bush on this crap. Jennings plays the clip of bush quoting Kerry, then plays the clip of what Kerry actually said (which in no way resembles the Bush quote) and the lie is exposed. It's that easy. Here is the video clip (you may have to download it to your desktop to view it)
FOX "News" caught lying
Fox news ran this obsurd story as truth. Then when people called them on their lies they quickly retracted it. Where is the outrage?

Bush's Top Ten Flip-Flops
"We found the weapons of mass destruction. We found biological laboratories."(May 29, 2003)
"I recognize we didn't find the stockpiles [of weapons] we all thought were there." (Sept. 9, 2004) - President Bush

LIE PATROL (from VP debate)
It's easy to get cynical about politicians lying, but last night's debate was remarkable for the number of times Dick Cheney told flat-out fibs. Both candidates stretched the facts here and there, and both of them sometimes left out important context — but Cheney was the only one to brazenly lie in front of a national audience, and he did it at least half a dozen times.
Cheney a flip-flopper? No way!
Way. In journalism, timing is everything -- and Campaign Extra! has always had lousy timing. So when we reported on Jan. 27, 2003 (as part of a long, and early, story about the dreaded PNAC) that Dick Cheney said back in 1992 that Saddam Hussein wasn't worth "not very damn many" American lives, nobody paid us much mind. That's OK -- we're used to it.
Bush Connects Iraq to 911 in this letter to congress
"to take the necessary actions against international terrorists and terrorist organizations, including those nations, organizations, or persons who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001."
Cheney Claims al-Qaida Linked to Saddam
The vice president on Monday offered no details backing up his claim of a link between Saddam and al Qaida. "He was a patron of terrorism," Cheney said of Hussein during a speech before The James Madison Institute, a conservative think-tank based in Florida. "He had long established ties with al Qaida."

Republicans Caught Spying on Democrats
This should be headlines news. This is this generations version of Watergate. But the media has already spun this as a computer security issue. It isn't the GOP's fault they read all those private files, because, the computer let them do it!

Medicare Secrecy Inquiry Is Silenced
House Republicans on Thursday shut down an inquiry by Democrats into whether the Bush administration acted illegally or inappropriately last year when it withheld from Congress its estimates of the true cost of the Medicare prescription drug bill.
